Awe, Wonder, and Morning Routines

Most mornings I get up and get straight into my morning routine, which starts with stretching, priming, cold plunge, walking with my buddy - my rescue dog Bono, etc.

Most mornings.

Then there's a morning like today.

Charleston is a sauna in July-August, with heat in the 90-100+ range and humidity in the 80+ range. But not today, Sept 1st.

I woke-up, stretched, let Bono out, and...

Wow.

A beautiful glimpse of Autumn. It's 62 and a light breeze.

My daughters won't be up for a while. Time for coffee on the porch and a slow morning enjoying the sunrise, the beauty of nature, and…. allowing myself to feel content - even if only for a little while.

Looking up into the live oaks I see the resurrection ferns amid the moss and took this picture.

Resurrection ferns are those little ferns growing on all the limbs and trunk that you can see in the picture. They were a case study we used when I worked in biomimicry.

Resurrection ferns can lose up 97% of their water, dry-up, and remain in a dormant, desiccated state for 100 years without water. Give them some water and, abacadabra, back to life.

There's beauty and awe surrounding us, if we just allow ourselves time to experience it.
